Why Run?

I am running as a Write-In candidate for Ann Arbor 1st Ward City Council this November. It is my belief that City Council elections should be decided in November, when they have the greatest amount of participation from voters and students. I grew up in Ann Arbor. I went to Northside, Clague and Huron High School. As a student at Eastern Michigan University, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in History and a minor in Political Science, and am working on my Masters of Science in Sports Management.

I have been active in 1st Ward politics since age 14. I believe that we need a City Council member who represents Ward 1 residents in a transparent manner. We have important issues that are facing the city such as the Gelman Plume Consent Judgment. I support advocating for an EPA Superfund and am strongly opposed to the Gelman Plume CJ 4 and dumping toxins in Sister Lake. Affordable Housing is critical and we need more cooperatives like Arrowwood. We need to hold developers accountable for contributing to the Affordable Housing Fund. Unfortunately, this did not happen with the Lowertown development. I strongly support our Police Chief, Michael Cox. We need to empower ICPOC (Independent Community Police Oversight Commission), but unfortunately, with the Mayor’s watered-down version, this did not occur. I would have supported the Citizen’s Task Force recommendations. Lastly, we need someone who has the time and energy to represent Ward 1 interests. I appreciate any support.
